台積電晶圓代工的能力全球認可,且憑著先進技術,拿下全球近半的晶圓代工市占率。不過
,也因為晶圓代工豐富經驗,如今台積電也加入自行研發設計晶片的行列。據國外媒體報導
,日前台積電展出一款為高效能運算(HPC)設計的晶片,採用 Arm Cortex A72 核心,時
脈高達 4GHz。
報導指出,台積電日前在日本東京舉行的大型積體電路設計研討會(VLSI Symposium 2019
),展示一款台積電自行設計的晶片,稱為「This」。此晶片具備雙晶片架構,而單一個晶
片都具 4 個 Arm Cortex A72 核心,以及內建 6MB 的 L3 快取記憶體。整個晶片組以 7
奈米製程技術打造,晶片面積為 4.4×6.2 mm(27.28 mm2 ), 且使用晶圓級先進扇形封
裝(CoWos)。

台積電此款晶片組特點是採用埠實體層技術,其中兩個晶片互聯。每個晶片組內的 4 個 Ar
m Cortex A72 核心,搭配兩個 1MB L2 快取記憶體,使用電壓在 1.2V 可達 4.0GHz 時脈
。不過實際測試時,當電壓提高到 1.375V,時脈更拉升到 4.2GHz。

另外,設備連接方面,台積電還開發了名為 LIPINCON 的互聯技術。這項技術可以讓晶片之
間的數據傳輸速率達到 8Gb/s。透過這項技術,台積電可以將多個「This」晶片進行封裝連
結,這使得運作獲得更強的性能。不過,針對「This」的相容性,台積電並沒說明更多。「
This」的超強功能為的是應用在高效能運算領域,所以想要看到「This」在手機或個人電腦
表演,大概還沒有機會。
