為什麼 HSW/BDW LGA CPU不支援 16GB 單條 - 3C

要討論這個問題先找 HSW EDS [1] & BDW EDS [2] 就對了,
找到 System Memory Technology Supported 章節就會看到如下表:

看到最後一行只有 8GB/DIMM,沒有 16GB 到此結案。
有趣的事情是難道我隨便買 8GB/DIMM 來插就一定沒事嗎?
這時候 三星的規格書[3] 給了我們一張有趣的表格如下:

Configuration 512Mbx4 256Mbx8 128Mbx16

如果買到用 512Mbx4 有32顆粒的模組來插呢?
1. 顯然 HSW/BDW 是不支援 11bit Column Address,所以開不起來也不意外
2. 顯然 HSW/BDW 也不支援 512Mbx4 的組態
至於 Rank 的問題,改天有機會再談了
如果對於記憶體顆粒內的架構有興趣的話,美光的的規格書[4] 畫得很漂亮。
這個才是重點
