990FX 推出後，AMD 至今從未再更新自家晶片組
使得與 Intel 間的差距從 CPU 架構延伸至慢速 I/O 上的落後。

情勢將在 2016 年 AMD 推出全新 Zen 平台後有所改變
眾所周知目前 Intel 在高階平台中仍然是採用 2-Chip 的機制
（CPU + PCH），兩者透過 DMI 通道連結，不過即便如此
仍然不足以應付目前高速發展中的 NAND Flash Storage。

也正因應這個發展方向，AMD Zen 架構在 Summit Ridge
會直接導入 PCH 部份功能，如 USB 3.0、SATA 與 PCIe 的專屬通道。

相較於目前 Intel 目前與下代 Skylake 平台
都有著更高速的通道用於儲存類應用
除了可以提供 PCIe x4 之外，SATA、SATA Express也一應俱全
提供更靈活的使用方式。簡而言之該功能類似在 Ivy Bridge-E
處理器上所保留的 PCIe Uplink（For SAS）的強化改良版
直接涵蓋了 AHCI Interface 不再單純只是 PCIe 的應用。

另一部分在 PCH 上則是採用 PCIe x4 Gen3 通道連接 Promontory 晶片組
提供我們所熟知的 PCH 功能，介面上則全數升級到目前最新規格
如 SATA Express 與 Intel Skylake 還未整合的 USB 3.1 都包含在內。
