Samsung 開始量產為下代顯卡而設的 GDDR6 記憶體晶片

如之前預告的那樣，在 Samsung 開始量產基於第二代 10nm 製程的 8Gb DDR4 RAM 晶片
後不久，16Gb 的 GDDR6 記憶體晶片現在也已經拍馬趕到了。早些時候官方公佈了開始大
規模量產這款組件的消息，據介紹該款同樣基於 10nm 製程打造的產品「將會在先期上市
的下一代顯卡、顯示系統中扮演至關重要的角色」。
具體來說，它的數據傳輸速度能達到 72 GB/s，幾乎兩倍於 8Gb GDDR5 RAM 晶片的表現
。與此同時功耗則下降了約 35%，而且製造生產率上漲了 30%，在同樣時間內生產線將有
望產出更多的晶片。這最後一點在如今顯卡被比特幣狂潮越推越貴的大環境下，應該是廣
大消費者最樂於見到的變化了吧？

You can start getting pumped about the next generation of graphics cards, as
Samsung has announced that it's building the first-ever 16-gigabit GDDR6
chips using its 10-nanometer class technology. The news isn't a complete
surprise, as Samsung previously said that GDDR6 was coming when it unveiled
8-gigabit DDR4 RAM chips last month and won a CES 2018 Innovation Award in
November.

GeForce GTX 1070 from a $380 suggested retail price to $890, as Techspot
noted. That's killing gamers and folks who love to build rigs (and promoting
pollution), but all of it is obviously good for Samsung's profits.
